Samsung DeX Comes to Galaxy Z Flip 7: A Desktop in Your Pocket

 For years, Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip phones have offered stylish and compact clamshell-like designs thanks to foldable screen technology. They’ve also packed flagship power thanks to high-end chips. However, when it came to serious productivity, they often took a backseat to their larger “book-style” Z Fold siblings. That era, it seems, is over. The brand-new Galaxy Z Flip 7 is here, and it brings a long-awaited feature to the clamshell lineup: DeX, Samsung’s desktop mode.


DeX transforms the experience on compatible Galaxy phones to a “desktop computer.” Connect your device to an external monitor, add a keyboard and mouse, and voilà—you’ve got a PC-like interface complete with resizable windows and a taskbar. Until now, all Z Flip models had lacked this feature. So, its arrival on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is a productivity game-changer. It means your pocket-sized powerhouse can now truly double as a “portable workstation.”


Galaxy Z Flip 7 brings DeX: Samsung’s desktop mode for clamshell foldables

Imagine this: you’re on the go, and an urgent email comes in that requires more than just a quick phone reply. With the Z Flip 7, you can simply plug it into a hotel TV or a portable monitor. Then, the screen will show a desktop environment with multi-window support—scrollable and resizable. Yes, you can also keep the phone folded while working if you prefer.


The Android Authority team tested the wired DeX experience on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. They confirm good news for the most part, being on par with the Galaxy S and Z Fold handsets. There are no compromises regarding multitasking power from your super-portable device.


That said, there’s one small detail that some might consider a missed opportunity. Unlike some competitors (like Motorola’s Razr phones), the Z Flip 7’s impressive cover screen can’t be used as a touchpad for DeX. The compact size makes this display perfect for a mini trackpad. So, it is at least striking that Samsung has decided not to include this functionality. It’s a minor point, perhaps, but one that could have added another layer of convenience to an already incredibly versatile device.


Anyway, we’re talking about the first version of DeX with Z Flip support. It’s possible that Samsung will improve the feature in the future through updates. In the meantime, carrying a “mini PC” around in your pocket has never been this simple and convenient.

Samsung Phones May Get On-device Voicemail, Following iOS steps

 Samsung appears to draw inspiration from the success of iOS’s Live Voicemail feature. The South Korean tech giant could be planning to incorporate a similar functionality in One UI soon. A teardown of the One UI 8 beta code has indicated that Samsung may be planning to offer on-device voicemail functionality for Galaxy devices.
